The Chesapeake Research Consortium (CRC), a regional 501(c)(3) housed at Annapolis, MD, is seeking an experienced environmental scientist to serve as its next Executive Director. Candidates should have familiarity with the Chesapeake Bay including its waters (hydrology/circulation, biogeochemistry, living resources), shorelines and land use (wetlands, forests, agricultural runoff, waste water treatment plants), and atmosphere (deposition, climate); knowledge of these system attributes for other coastal systems may also be acceptable. In addition, candidates should have broad knowledge of the science network in the mid-Atlantic region and established relationships with federal, state, and regional NGOs. The Executive Director is responsible for identifying and facilitating agency/department interest and funding for collaborative multi-disciplinary, multi-institution research projects. He/she must also act as a pro-active liaison between the research and management communities to ensure transfer of science to inform and guide science-based management and policy in the region. The successful candidate will not be expected to maintain a personally-active research program; rather, his/her primary role will be to help secure opportunities for researchers in the six-member institutions. Strong verbal and writing skills are a necessity, as well as a demonstrated history of active interaction with science and management communities. Frequent regional and occasional national/international meeting participation is expected.  An academic affiliation within a member institution is possible, with access to all benefits within the affiliated institution or alternatively, through CRC.

Minimum requirements include a MS or PhD in an environmental or related science field with at least 10 years of relevant experience. This is a full-time 12-month appointment with salary dependent on candidate background and skills.  The selected candidate should begin January 1, 2015.
