Research Summary:

Viruses as markers of host population dynamics, emerging virus infections, viruses and innate immunity, and pathogen interactions. She uses rapidly evolving virus genes as markers to study recent changes in host population demographics, determining how viruses respond to new host environments, and studying the molecular mechanisms of disease attenuation that occurs during coinfection with virulent and apathogenic distantly related feline lentiviruses. Her work has applications to species conservation and infections in natural host populations.
